2026 Legislative Session: What Vacation Rental Owners Need to Know
The 2026 Idaho legislative session is shaping up to be one of the most consequential for vacation rental operators in recent years.
IVRA's legislative committee has identified three priority bills that could directly affect how you operate your rental properties.
Registration Framework Bill
The proposed statewide registration framework would create a single, standardized process for vacation rental operators across Idaho. Rather than navigating different requirements in each county and municipality, operators would register once through a state portal.
IVRA supports this approach because it reduces compliance burden while giving communities the data they need to plan effectively.
Tax Equity Provisions
A separate bill would adjust how transient lodging taxes are assessed on vacation rentals, bringing them in line with the rates charged to traditional hotels and motels. IVRA has testified that the current disparity creates an uneven playing field.
What You Can Do
- —Attend your local legislator's town hall and share your experience as a rental operator
- —Forward IVRA's legislative briefs to fellow operators who may not be members yet
- —Contact the IVRA office if you would like to provide testimony
